HOW DID ALL THIS COME ABOUT?

It all began during a time in ancient history called ‘the 80’s’….

In the beginning…

Aaron Gray (AKA “Lord Muck”) worked in the flooring trade until 2015.  He now works full-time at Muckmedden Events, turning his own crazy ideas into reality and attempting to get people to love mountain bikes as much as he does.

From an early age Aaron always loved riding bikes and was obsessed with BMX when it first hit the UK waayyy back in the 80’s.  When he left school, like many teenagers, he fell into “adult life” and cars and motorbikes became far more appealing than pedal bikes.  In fact he didn’t look at another bicycle again until his early twenties when he was given a crusty old Raleigh Maverick mountain bike as payment for fitting a floor.

Aaron ragged that bike around the hills of Perthshire for a few years before selling most of his material belongings to go and travel the world.

Don’t call it a comeback…

After several “wilderness years” away from bikes travelling and bringing up a young family, Aaron treated himself to a modern fangled full suspension Trek Fuel in 2008.  This was a spur of the moment decision that changed his life forever.

After entering a few cross country races for fun, Aaron wondered what it would take to organise a race on his local trails.  After several months of red tape and feeling round in the dark, the event was fast becoming a reality.  It was time to put up, or shut up.

The following months were spent badgering friends into designing a funky logo, setting up a website, joining social media and spreading ‘the Muckin’ word’ about a brand new mountain bike event called ‘Muckmedden’.  The event was held at Pitmedden Forest on April 22nd 2012 and attracted over 300 riders from across the UK.

Never again!

At that first event Aaron was quoted saying “NEVER again.  But a decade and a bit later, muckmedden have dozens of spectacular events to their name, from Festivals to Enduros, and now offer many services from event management to mobile bike track hire, skills coaching, guiding and trail building.

Aaron is also a major driving force behind the development of Tayside’s trails network.  In 2020 he helped to unite the riding community and various landowners by forming the Tayside Trail Association (TTA), a voluntary group working in conjunction with landowners to manage ‘wild trails’ across the region.

Thanks in no small part to Aaron’s passion and leadership, TTA is now one of the most successful trail associations in the UK and continues to go from strength to strength.
