Question: What’s better than a girl riding a bike?  Answer: Lots of girls riding bikes!  We’re delighted our Muckmaiden Ladies Days are back in 2017 thanks to Ginger Squirrel Adventures and Progression Bikes.

Disclaimer; here follows an overly simplified version of reality.  We’ll gloss over the countless of hours of funding applications, head-scratching, yawn-tastic multi-agency meetings and figuring out how the hell to build a website, because all of that is exceedingly dull.

It’s the start of 2015 and one of our regular racers (and now good friend) Yvonne Hay says she loves Muckmedden events so much because not only do we have the same number of Female categories as Male (why wouldn’t we?!) but also just because our events are the absolute shizzle of the highest hizzle.

She said other ladies would love our events too if she could only convince them to come along and try them.  But how?

For the next couple of years she went on a personal crusade, starting up a Community Interest Company called Ginger Squirrel Adventures who focus on getting more kids and females riding Mountain Bikes by making it all a bit less intimidating.  Since 2015 we (i.e. Yvonne) has been running Muckmaiden days ahead of each of our events which have attracted literally hunners of new Sheilas to our events.

Not only that but she has helped create an entire mini-mountain bike scene in Scotland’s East Coast and Central Belt and put a bunch of slightly nuts (in a good way because I’m one of them – Aaron) people though Outdoor First Aid and Mountain Bike Leader Training so they can help deliver Muckmaiden days and Ginger Squirrel camps.  Chief Squirrel, we salute you and hope you’re knee gets better very soon.

After feedback from the ladies in year one, we brought Progression Bikes into the Muckmaiden fold last year to provide another element – Female Specific Skills Coaching.  The feedback has been phenomenal from Adam’s coaching sessions and is something we look forward to running again this year.  Sessions are split according to skill level so you’ll never feel out of your depth, with Novice/Intermediate or Intermediate/Advanced sessions.
