25th November 2017, Callendar Estate, Falkirk

It’s a Hard Days Night!

Welcome to our final event of 2017, where the trails are fast-flowing and the Hot Chocolate flows by the gallon.  Falkirk Funduro takes place on Callendar Estate, Falkirk in late November, you know that time of year when it gets a bit chilly, is dark by 4pm and everyone moans about the nights drawing in?

Well we LOVE that because we can finally turn to the DARK side!

Boasting one of the best novice-friendly Mountain Bike trails networks in Scotland, the event takes place on Callendar Estate, which is situated within a stone’s throw of Scotland’s main population centres, making it the perfect venue for a family-friendly Funduro with it’s easy-going trails and on-site restaurant and bike shop.

The event kicks off in the Greenrig Bike Park with bike racing for under 6 Balance Bikers and Pedal Bikers and later in the morning, slightly bigger Muckers (aged 6 to 11) can race in their very own multi stage Mini Funduro!  With real chip-timing and up to four timed stages on green-graded trails (suitable for 16″+ wheels) this is undoubtedly THE most fun race your child will ever have within a “race” environment.  Each timed stage is connected by an untimed transition and parents can chaperone their kids around the course and see them race first hand if they wish, but if you are happy with your child racing without a Chaperone, that’s fine too.

Next we have the big race; riders aged 12+ have a choice of “Day” or “Day & Night” racing on some of Callendar Estate’s gnarlier trails.  We have lined-up four timed stages taking in everything from flowing Blue trails with berms and rollers, to all-natural descents with roots, rock gardens and medium-sized drop-offs.  Most stages are a bit more pedally than your average Enduro so it’s the perfect chance to bring out your Hardtails and short travel bikes and stamp your authority over those burly Enduro bikes.

Come on winter, show us what you’ve got!

“Another amazing Muckmedden event! It was epic racing the stages in the dark!”

2017 entries open soon.  Keep an eye on the News section for details.

Option 1 (Falkirk Wheel) – You can park at the Falkirk Wheel and cycle up to the event village at Greenrig if you don’t mind a fairly easy 2.5km ride/walk.  There are plenty of parking spaces and this option has the added advantage that the Falkirk Wheel is clearly signposted from the M9.  You also get to see the amazing feet of engineering that is the Falkirk Wheel along the way, which is well worth a visit if you’ve never been before.

Option 2 (Bantaskine) – If you are familiar with the area you can also park at Bantaskine which is 1.5km from the event village.  For the event village follow signs to Greenrig.

Option 3 (Greenrig) – If you wish to park nearer the event village, parking is also available on the estate road just along from Greenrig car park (FK1 3AQ on a GPS).  From the B8028 in Falkirk, turn onto Slamannan Road at the traffic lights and continue SA until you reach a roundabout, take the fourth exit onto Lochgreen Road and continue SA until you see two large, modern wooden buildings on the RHS.  Follow the yellow signs for “Car Park” and an attendant will be on hand to direct you to a safe parking place.  *NOTE:  Please park as instructed as parking on some sections of verge may result in your vehicle being stuck.  There is £2 charge per vehicle for on-site parking (which includes overnight stay in a camper if you wish).  This money goes to Bespoke Community Development Company for the up-keep and development of the Callendar Estate Cycle Trails network.  Without these guys, this event would not be possible so hopefully you won’t begrudge paying the £2.  They have also promised to tow you out if you happen to get stuck! 😉

There is a fairly easy 2.5km ride/walk to the event village from the Falkirk Wheel.  Just follow the signs to Greenrig.

There are no direct bus routes to the event but many green travel options are available.
